A Letter From Mike Paolini
Director of Soccer, Empire USA-Syracuse

Dear Parents and Players,

Empire USA-Syracuse age groups will have Blue, Red and Club teams based on the number of players and quality of the players in each age group. The Blue team is the top team in the age group followed by the Red team as the second team.  Club teams are teams that will train and play on a more appropriate level based on the level of the team. The coaches and directors will have evaluated and ranked each player in order to determine what team is the best fit for each individual player.  Some age groups will not have a split into a Blue or Red team based on the age group and quality of players.  Coaches will be using the first session to properly evaluate all the kids in their specific age groups to establish more concrete rosters for the second session and transition to outdoors.  We will have a fall kick off meeting to provide more detailed team specific information in the few weeks after try outs.

As players develop physically and technically from the younger ages to their college years their place on a team may change as well.  All the coaches and directors have seen a player placed on a Club level team at one point and become a solid Blue team player physically and technically at a later point.  They have also seen this happen vice versa as others may catch up when another player’s development slows down.  Throughout the 2011-12 season, players will be able to move from one team to another based on their development and progress.  This will be determined by the coaches and directors.

I have been a part of selections for US National Training Centers for the past few years and have been working with National Staff Members/Coaches to make sure our program is using the proper training methods to maximize our players talents.  There are four pillars to the game of soccer Technical, Tactical, Mental, and Physical and players develop each area at different rates.  Empire USA-Syracuse’s goal is to develop all players to maximize their potential in all four areas and the best way to do this is by placing players on a team where Empire USA-Syracuse feels the player fits best.

If you have any further questions or comments, please feel free to contact me anytime.

Best Regards,

Michael Paolini
